Soul To Soul - Theatre Production

The story revolves around the romantic relationship between a Christian boy and a Hindu girl against the backdrop of Goa's freedom struggle from Portuguese rule. This childhood romance has reached a critical junction as the boy's father who is a Portuguese soldier opposes the idea of their marriage and instead accepts a transfer to Portugal.

The boy writes from Portugal after Goa's liberation,through a book written by him on their childhood love and therein asks the girl to marry him. On reading the book the girl gets lost in the ocean of her thoughts. The boy's soul (referred to as "maan")meets and interacts with her sould and tries convince her to marry him. The girl's soul struggles to make its decision. 

The play makes us ask: "What is it that which make us take any decisions? How do we get convinced to do anything?" 

This inner conflict within us is what is being portrayed in this drama. Are we puppets in the hand of our soul or vice versa? The director has tried to interprete the text visually and present it in the form of two road puppets to show this conflict.

The play "Soul to soul" was originally written by late Shri. Linganath Naik in Marathi and translated into English by Geeta Joshi. Produced by th group "Rudreshwar from Panjim, the set design and direction is executed by Satish Narvekar, a theatre teacher and practitioner working for over a couple of decades in Goa. This Play was presented in 3 international festivals, namely The Colombo International Theatre Festival in Srilanka, The South Asian Theatre festival (online) and The Bharat Ranga Mohotsav in Nashik, India organised by the National School of Drama.
